Right now, stop and think about everything you want to do for next week. If you made a list, there’s a good chance you’d tick most of them off. You might not get everything done, but at the very least, the important things would get done.
What if I took your list away? Do you think you could get through the week as well, being just as productive?
Let’s look at Jan and Meryl. Both ladies work at a large publishing firm. Their jobs are the same, entry-level editors.
While both ladies started at the same place, their careers unfolded in very different directions within five years. While Jan sat at her same desk, doing her same work, Meryl had risen to the district manager.
So what was so different?
Hard work? Nope.
Discipline? Nup.
Intelligence? Wrong again.
Direction? Bingo.
Success didn’t find Meryl – she found success. Meryl knew where she wanted to go and how to get there. Meryl planned her journey right down to the week.
Jan, not so much. With no direction, she switched to default mode – aimless wandering. Sometimes she was effective, and other times she wasn’t. She had the consistency of a Whack-A-Mole game, and without a plan, that’s all any of us can expect.
Without a plan, we can’t even stay on course for a week. How how can we expect to go a lifetime? You’ve heard the cliche, life’s a journey. Well, today I learnt that I’ve been travelling without a map.
We can never expect to get where we want in life if we don’t know how to get there. Who do you want to be? What do you want to achieve?
If you’re here, how will you get there?
