Introduction
Taking Notes
What is the deal with Taking Notes?
It’s what we all associate most when it comes to learning. Whether we are watching a lecture, listening to a tutorial or reading a textbook, it’s almost certain that we will be taking notes.
Why is this?
Because we are never taught to do anything else. If we need to remember something important – we take notes. The harsh truth is that taking notes is only a small part of the learning equation, yet it gets most of our learning attention. To make matters worse, we usually aren’t even taking notes the right way. I know I wasn’t.
Should we take notes, then?
The answer is a resounding yes. Taking notes is a pastime that won’t go out of fashion – and for good measure – there are many circumstances where it is necessary and beneficial to take notes. The problem is, that we overuse our note-taking. For many of us, it becomes a crutch.
In this lesson, we will navigate the process of taking notes to optimise your learning.
